During a recent visit to Chinooks Bar and Grill in Seward, Alaska I ordered the poutine as a starter. The first time I had ever had poutine was at a campground / RV park along the Alaska-Canadian Highway (ALCAN) early last year. Poutine is pretty simple and something which I am surprised that America has not embraced.
The poutine at Chinooks Bar and Grill was more of a higher end poutine in my opinion with a peppercorn gravy and green onions, but the rest remained the same. The french fries are covered with cheese curds and then smothered in hot gravy which melts the cheese into the fries.
If you ever make it into Canada or into a town near Canada that may serve poutine, give it a shot. If you can find cheese curds, making your own is simple enough and you can stick with s standard brown gravy.
